Ah, Fort Santiago, the impressive 16th-century citadel that has withstood the test of time. Nestled in the walled city of Intramuros, one of the oldest districts in Manila, this remarkable landmark has seen the ebb and flow of history dating back to the Spanish era.
To this day, it continues to draw locals and tourists from all over the world, making it one of the top historical attractions in the Philippines. It boasts a myriad of architectural gems, some of which include the Plaza de Armas, Baluarte de San Diego, and Rizal Shrine. But, did you know that it is also home to a quaint cafe tucked away in the corners of the fortress? Step into Papakape for delicious coffee, tea, and a relaxing atmosphere!

If you’re always on the lookout for new coffee spots in Manila, then you’ve probably already heard of the Papakape Cafe in Makati City. It is famous for its ginger-infused coffee and tea beverages. In case you missed it, the coffee project opened its second post inside Fort Santiago in February!

You’ll find this cafe hidden in the corner of Plaza de Armas inside Aljibe de la Fuerza, a 400-year-old water cistern. Contrary to the glass house aesthetic of its first branch, Papakape in Fort Santiago boasts an old-world charm with its stone architecture and rustic interiors that pay tribute to the fort’s legacy. But, what truly sets Papakape apart is its delectable menu offerings!

Customers can indulge in classic coffee and tea drinks as well as unique blends exclusively served here. Some of these include the Black Gulaman Americano and Kape Cerveza, the latter a refreshing espresso and beer concoction. Additionally, Papakape offers light snacks like bread and pastries to pair your drink of choice with.
Ultimately, Papakape in Fort Santiago makes for an ideal spot for some respite after your sightseeing adventures. And not to mention, it’s another gem that deserves a spot on your coffee-shop-hopping bucket list.
