New Instagrammable Library in Sorsogon Will Give You K-Drama Feels

There’s no denying that Korean dramas have taken over Filipinos’ social media timelines. So much that when one associates a song, food, or even a place to Korean culture, it’s an instant hit among local readers. Among them is the new Sorsogon State College library, which has gone viral for its “mala K-drama” look.

Heart Evangelista, actress and wife of incumbent Sorsogon governor Chiz Escudero, recently posted sneak peeks of the soon-to-open multi-level library in Sorsogon City, Sorsogon. While still unfinished, it’s clear how the facility exudes that Korean library aesthetic familiar to avid viewers of shows like It’s Okay To Not Be Okay, to the amazement of bookworms and K-drama fans alike.

Evangelista’s fashion during her visit to the library made the photos even more eye-catching. “Miss Heart is really out here channeling THE Ko Mun Yeong vibe,” a netizen said in Evangelista’s Twitter post, referring to one of the lead characters of the 2020 romantic drama.

Outside these shows, Instagram-worthy libraries in South Korea are also anything but new. Some Twitter users even compared the new Sorsogon State College library to the Starfield Library in Gangnam’s Coex Mall. It features towering shelves filled with books of all shapes, colours, and sizes. There’s also Arc n Book in Seoul’s Jung-gu district, which K-drama Romance Is a Bonus Book featured in some of its episodes.

John Olinad Esller, the designer of the new Sorsogon State College library, also joined in the Twitter thread. “As [a] designer, it’s an honour to know that more people are having good feedback to the designs,” he said. “Yung dati imagination at drawing lang ngayon totoo na!”  Esller designed the facility three years ago, which will also feature an e-library and a café.
