Ever dreamed of travelling somewhere a bit off the radar, but still full of beauty, history, and surprises? If you’re done with the usual travel spots like Japan or Korea, here’s one that deserves a serious spot on your bucket list: Armenia.
This hidden gem in the Caucasus region is not only stunning but also carries an incredible piece of history—it’s the first country in the world to adopt Christianity as a state religion, all the way back in 301 AD. Imagine exploring ancient monasteries that have stood for centuries, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, and soaking in a culture that’s deeply rich yet still a secret to many travellers.

Armenia is nestled between Eastern Europe and Western Asia, sharing borders with Georgia, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Iran. For many Filipino travellers, pairing Armenia with its neighbour Georgia is a popular choice since the two countries are close and easy to explore together.

While there are no direct flights from Manila to Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, the journey is pretty straightforward with layovers. Common transit points include Dubai, Doha, and Istanbul—major hubs serviced by airlines like Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Turkish Airlines.
If you want to explore more and save a bit, you can fly to Tbilisi in Georgia first, then take a scenic land trip into Armenia. The overland route is popular among travellers who want to experience both countries in one trip.
Many travellers enter Armenia by land from Georgia. Regular buses and shared vans, known as marshrutkas, run between Tbilisi and Yerevan and take about 5 to 6 hours. This route offers stunning views of the Caucasus mountains and a budget-friendly way to travel.
Good news for Filipino passport holders: Armenia makes entry simple.
You have two main options:
E-Visa: Apply online through the Armenian government’s official e-visa portal. The process takes about 10 minutes and you’ll get your approval in a few days.
Visa on Arrival (VOA): Available at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan and some land borders if you hold a valid visa from Japan, the Schengen area, the US, the UK, South Korea, or Canada.
Either option means you can plan your trip without the usual visa headaches.
Armenia’s charm lies in its combination of rich history, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality. Here are some highlights you won’t want to miss:

Armenia is still under the radar for many travellers, meaning you can enjoy peaceful, uncrowded experiences. It’s also very affordable compared to many European destinations, making it a smart choice if you want a unique trip without breaking the bank.
Pairing Armenia with Georgia turns your holiday into a rich cultural and scenic adventure, with easy border crossings and plenty to see.
Pack layers: The weather can change quickly, especially in mountainous areas.
Try local foods: Don’t miss tasting Armenian lavash bread and their delicious wines.
Bring cash: Some places don’t accept cards, so have local currency or US dollars handy.
Learn a few phrases: A simple “barev” (hello) goes a long way!
Ready to explore the world’s first Christian country? Armenia offers history, stunning nature, and a warm welcome. It’s more accessible than ever from the Philippines, and it might just be the adventure you didn’t know you needed.
