Hulugan Falls Travel Guide 2025: Fees, Tips, and How to Go

You’d think we’ve seen all the best waterfalls in Luzon, but Hulugan Falls in Luisiana, Laguna? She’s still that girl. Towering at around 70 metres and surrounded by misty rainforest vibes, this beauty has kept her charm through the years. And if you haven’t made the trip yet — or if it’s been a while — 2025 might just be the perfect time to go back.

So, where exactly is Hulugan Falls?

You’ll find her hidden in Barangay San Salvador in Luisiana, Laguna — a quiet town near Pagsanjan and Lucban. It’s part of a trio of falls (with Talay Falls and Hidden Falls) that have made this sleepy area a favourite day hike destination for nature lovers and casual adventurers alike.

How to get there from Manila

By public transport:

  1. Catch a bus going to Sta. Cruz, Laguna from Cubao or Buendia terminals (around ₱160–₱212, 2.5–3 hours).

  2. From Sta. Cruz, ride a jeep bound for Lucban or Lucena and ask to be dropped off at San Salvador, Luisiana (₱30–₱45).

  3. Then take a short tricycle ride (around ₱20) to the registration area, a.k.a. the Captain’s House.

By private car:

Waze is your best friend here. Head down South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), exit at Calamba, and drive through Los Baños, Bay, Pagsanjan, and then Luisiana. Parking fees are ₱40 for cars and ₱20 for motorbikes.

Updated 2025 fees (yep, everything’s gone up a bit)

Expense Amount

Registration ₱50 per person

Environmental fee ₱40

Tourism fee ₱30

Guide (Hulugan only) ₱500 per group (max 5)

Guide (3 falls) ₱600 per group

Life vest rental ₱70

Tricycle to jump-off ₱20 one way

Shower use ₱5–₱20

Pro tip: Fees change occasionally, and cash is king here — no ATMs, no GCash.

The trail: Expect to sweat, slip, and say “ang ganda!”

The trek to Hulugan takes around 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your pace and the weather. There are two trail options:

Easier trail: Longer, more gradual path for beginners

Steeper trail: Shorter but more slippery and intense — masakit sa legs pero sulit

Don’t forget:

  • Wear sturdy shoes with grip (not your fancy white sneakers)

  • Bring a waterproof bag — there’s a lot of mist!

  • Be ready to get muddy, especially if it’s rained recently

Camping and overnight stays

Want to extend the nature feels? You can camp near the falls or at a campsite near the jump-off with better amenities (electricity, kitchen, Wi-Fi). Rates range from ₱100 to ₱400 depending on where you stay. Overnight guides charge ₱1,000 for a group of 5.

What to eat?

After the hike, don’t miss the bibingka near the registration area — freshly made and perfect with coffee. Expect to pay around ₱100 for three pieces. For heavier meals, head to nearby Pagsanjan or Lucban for full-on food trips.

When’s the best time to go?

Dry season (Dec to Feb) is the sweet spot — cooler weather, safer trails

Weekdays = fewer people = better photos

Rainy season (June–Nov)? Still doable, but check with local officials — sometimes they close the trail for safety.

Reminder: Pregnant travellers and those with serious health conditions are advised not to go — the trail can get intense, especially if it's wet.

TL;DR: Is Hulugan Falls worth visiting in 2025?

Absolutely. If you’re craving a nature escape that isn’t overly commercialised but still has enough infrastructure for a smooth trip, Hulugan Falls delivers. It's raw, refreshing, and surprisingly affordable — the kind of place that makes you forget your deadlines and just breathe.
