Flying out of Iloilo Airport may soon feel a lot less cramped. Department of Transportation (DOTr) has ordered the airport to remove its initial security screening, saying it only makes passengers crowd at check-in instead of speeding things up.
Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced this after inspecting the airport over the weekend. He gave airport management 15 days to submit a plan on how to roll out the change.
““Kailangan nang tanggalin ito kasi redundant na ‘yung proseso. ‘Yan din ang bilin ng Pangulo, maglaan ng mas malaking espasyo para sa mga pasahero, para hindi sila magsiksikan sa check-in,” Lopez stated.
The goal is to give more breathing space and a smoother airport experience for passengers.

No more first round of security checks before check-in counters.
Passengers will still undergo the final security check before boarding.
Less waiting time and more space inside the departure hall.
But this isn’t the only change coming. Lopez also shared that upgrades are in the pipeline for Iloilo Airport, including:
Passenger terminal expansion to fit more travellers.
Automated check-in with facial recognition to cut long queues.
Runway improvements so the airport can welcome bigger planes and more international flights.
Lopez said the DOTr’s goal is clear: modern airports in the regions, not just in Manila. “Our passengers deserve the best travel experience, and that is what we will give them,” he added.

If you’re travelling through Iloilo soon, expect smoother airport time with fewer unnecessary steps. For Filipinos, especially OFWs and travellers flying from the provinces, this means easier departures, shorter lines, and better facilities to look forward to.
The removal of the initial bag check and future upgrades at Iloilo Airport promise less hassle and more comfort for Filipino travellers, bringing provincial airports closer to world-class standards.
