The promise of new flavours beckons from Banawe.
Skipping the beach, mountains, or any hiking trail this long weekend? No worries. There’s a fun way to spend some city time without feeling stuck indoors. If you’ve been missing matcha (and who hasn’t after that shortage drama?), Manila Matcha Fest is back, taking over the Main Atrium of SM Mall of Asia from 22 to 31 August 2025. Entrance is free.
For ten days, the atrium becomes a playground for matcha lovers. Drinks, desserts, workshops, even a rave are all centred around Japan’s iconic green tea. Whether you’re a seasoned fan or just curious about the hype, this is probably the closest Manila has gotten to a full-on matcha takeover.

Matcha also has a health boost, with up to ten times more antioxidants than regular green tea. That photogenic latte is quietly doing your body some good. It’s interesting how this Japanese tradition has evolved, appearing in cafés, desserts, and even music raves here in Manila.

Filipinos have fully embraced matcha too. What was once a traditional Japanese tea is now a gentrified favourite, appearing in milk teas, cakes, doughnuts, and even cocktails. It has gone from a niche flavour to a full-on trend, and one shortage even sparked panic-buying, showing just how much people love it.
If you’re staying in the city this long weekend, this is a fun way to spend a day or two without packing a bag or driving hours. Whether you’re there for the culture, the flavour, or just the vibe, the Manila Matcha Fest is a sweet, green excuse to try something different.
