Think the wealth of the Philippines is concentrated only in Metro Manila? Think again. According to the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), several provinces and cities outside the capital are showing impressive economic growth, measured by per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP). From Baguio in the north to Davao in the south, these regions are booming, proving that economic power is spread throughout the archipelago.

Topping the list for 2022 is the mountainous city of Baguio, with each resident contributing an impressive ₱420,016 on average to the national economy. Known for its cool climate and tourist attractions, Baguio also thrives on education and IT, with several universities and BPO companies driving its growth.
Next on the list is Cagayan de Oro, the gateway to Northern Mindanao, with a per capita GDP of ₱343,936. This city’s economic engine is powered by its port, which serves as a hub for commerce and trade in the region, as well as by a thriving business sector that supports retail, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
Lapu-Lapu City, with its rich historical significance and bustling economic zone, ranks third with a per capita GDP of ₱313,039. Tourism, driven by luxury resorts and dive spots on Mactan Island, and the Mactan Export Processing Zone fuel the city’s economic strength.
In the Visayas, Iloilo City continues to impress with a per capita GDP of ₱306,444. Real estate development is booming in this coastal city, with new malls, hotels, and condominiums sprouting up, while agriculture remains a strong contributor in the rural areas.
Strategically located in Central Luzon, Bataan comes in with a per capita GDP of ₱297,930. The Freeport Area of Bataan hosts a variety of industries from manufacturing to tech startups, making the province an industrial powerhouse.
Other regions making the top 10 include Cebu City (₱293,426), Laguna (₱287,280), Mandaue City (₱274,376), Davao City (₱258,811), and Batanes (₱251,955), each contributing significantly to the national economy through a mix of tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, IT, and renewable energy.
