For this week’s travel inspiration, you needn’t look any farther than the region of Bicol. Although many travellers usually flock to the province of Albay to see the Mayon Volcano, another natural sight has stolen the hearts of residents and netizens alike.
Sunflowers have been spotted blooming and blanketing a field in Barangay Salugan, Camalig, Albay. These radiant flowers are a sight to behold, especially with the near-perfect slopes of the volcano in the background.
The sunflower farm is currently owned by engineer Richard Dino. According to Dino’s son, the idea of creating a sunflower maze first came from his mother. She wanted to support the construction workers who suddenly found themselves out of work when jobs at their construction firm were stopped temporarily, due to COVID-19 quarantine measures. When these construction workers came to Dino’s family in search of aid and a means of livelihood, Dino’s parents thought of creating this sunflower farm to provide a source of income for these workers during the lockdown in Albay. Needless to say, it’s quite a touching story behind such an inspiring landscape.
Stunning photos of the sunflower blooms in Camalig, captured by Jose Carretero of ABS-CBN News, may be seen below.

To top it all off, this sunflower farm in Albay is officially open for visitors! Besides admiring the flowers, guests are also welcome to pick vegetables like eggplant and ampalaya to their heart’s content, while paying for each vegetable chosen.
Filipinos who live nearby can visit the farm in Albay without any transport restrictions. However, visitors from Metro Manila should wait until the current quarantine regulations are eased before taking any road trips for leisure. For the time being, we recommend staying off the road and only venturing out for essential needs.
