Apparently, the idea that Hidilyn Diaz is on "easy mode" regarding her travel or fuel expenses is not true. After she won the gold medal in the 2020 Olympics, several companies stepped forward to announce various rewards. One of the most talked-about incentives was a lifetime supply of free fuel from Phoenix Oil. This led many people to believe that she never has to worry about the rising cost of oil or the conflict in the Middle East affecting her commute.
However, the reality of the situation is quite different from what was reported in the news years ago. Her manager, Noel Ferrer, recently clarified that this specific perk has not actually been delivered. While the public remains under the impression that she fills her tank for free, she is actually paying for her petrol just like every other driver.

This situation has become a bit of a joke within her team to help manage the disappointment. Instead of enjoying a free ride, Hidilyn is currently dealing with the same financial pressure at the pump as the rest of the country. Her manager noted that while they try to stay positive, the commitment made by the oil company has remained unfulfilled.
It is quite a contrast to the high-profile announcements made during the height of her victory. Many netizens expressed envy over her supposed perks, but those rewards are currently non-existent. This serves as a practical reminder that not every public promise of a reward results in an actual benefit for our athletes.

While the fuel incentive failed to arrive, other major rewards were settled following her historic win. Official records and reports confirm that Hidilyn received several high-value properties and cash prizes to secure her future.
A 14-million peso condominium unit in Eastwood City provided by Megaworld Corporation.
A house and lot in Tagaytay courtesy of the Philippine Olympic Committee.
A residential property in Zamboanga City pledged by the government.
Over 35 million pesos in total cash from both the government (RA 10699) and private tycoons.
As petrol prices continue to fluctuate, it is clear that even our national heroes are not exempt from the high cost of living. Staying informed about these updates helps us understand the real situation of our local sports icons and the local economy.
