SMC’s rehabilitation plan for NAIA outlines a new terminal building that will double the airport’s total capacity. Construction is expected to take at least three years upon approval, with a projected completion date within six months. The winning SMC-led consortium, NAIA Infrastructure Corp., will reportedly pay the government ₱170.6 billion for the project.
During the signing of the concession agreement on Monday, 18 Mar, SMC President and CEO Ramon Ang provided details regarding the new terminal’s location and additional features. The company plans to build the new passenger terminal on the grounds of the abandoned Philippine Village Hotel. To improve accessibility, a Skyway bypass will also be constructed. This will connect to NAIA Terminal 3 and provide lanes to both Magallanes and Pasay City.

The new NAIA passenger terminal is part of a larger development plan by SMC as they envision this project to work in tandem with a new airport that is currently being planned in Bulacan. Officials intend the upcoming Bulacan airport to handle overflow from the congested NAIA, ultimately creating a more efficient and streamlined air travel network in the Philippines.
